Far and away the most popular real-world headset on the market is the Oculus Quest, and it looks like its next one is nearing the venue. Image that looks like it shows Oculus Quest 2 posted on Twitter, and introduces some key details.

Bloomberg reported earlier this year that Oculus was developing its second-generation headset. The Oculus Quest 2 is meant to be almost 15% faster than its predecessor, with a higher screen resolution of 90Hz instead of the original 60Hz versions. Its built-in materials are expected to be more in line with the Rift S, which has a flexible plastic compared to the fabric and velcro straps on the current unit.

The leaked image on Twitter seems to be in line with Bloomberg report, which also says that many versions of the second generation device are being tested.

The display is a dual tone design to the black and white of the Sony PlayStation PlayStation 5. The Rift S’s plastic straps are here, with adjustments in reserve reserved for groups instead of having a third adjustable strap over the top of the head.

The most popular feature of the headset is the lack of interpupillary distance sensor, which works as a way to adjust the lenses on the headset to provide better focus reliability on the user’s eyes. Bloomberg reported that some of the designs being tested will not have a physical slip feature. Perhaps this issue will be handled by the software.

The Twitter user who posted the photo, who had leaked the app earlier, responded to questions about whether this was a “pro” or “lite” version of the current app and said he believed it was called Oculus Quest 2.

The controllers look to be of a similar design to those on the current Order but believe they will make some improvements as well.

While the VR market has been slow to move away, the Quest is undoubtedly one of its biggest success stories, always out of the market and estimated to sell more than 500,000 units over the past year. Oculus even rolled out the Go-only section from its lineup, as Quest has been able to offer a finished package at an affordable price.

It is understandable that a Quest 2 will be in the pipeline, although our noise of the 2020 launch is no longer an option due to the pandemic and we may not see a release until 2021.
