Facebook’s annual forum for rounds and real projects has got a new name, and will go viral this year.

Facebook Connect – formerly known as the Oculus Connect conference – will take place on September 16. Like most technology conferences during the age of coronavirus, the conference will be digital as a whole free of charge.

The event will feature keynote addresses from “Facebook executives and industry insiders” and provide “critical development times” for participants, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Over the years, Connect has grown to have a lot more than Oculus, with trial updates and product news from Spark AR to Portal from Facebook,” the social media giant said in a blog post. The conference has been held for the past six years.

Facebook’s AR / VR research division will also drop the “Oculus” from its name and will be rebranded as the Facebook Light Center (FRL). The new name works to “read the broader work being done on Facebook as we build the next generation of computing platform to help people feel more comfortable with each other, especially when we are separated.”

Facebook said FRL will continue to develop applications and software, including commitment to user privacy.

Rebranding – which Facebook says will provide information – is a new step to integrate Oculus more seamlessly into Facebook’s ecosystem.

Earlier this month, Oculus announced an argument that new users would need to log in with a Facebook page to use the device. Existing users will also need to log in by January 2023.
